A urinary tract infection is an infection some part of the urinary tract.  Most often this is just the bladder.  It can involve one or rarely both kidneys or the ureters (the tube for urine to flow from the kidney to the bladder.  Typical symptoms are burning with urination, going more frequently, only passing small amounts of urine, cloudy or bloody urine, foul odor to the urine and urgency, the feeling like you have to go now and may not make it to the bathroom.

If you have fever, significant abdominal pain or back pain you should get checked right away.
