Vomiting

Vomiting can occur from many different causes.  It is usually associated with nausea, the upset stomach feeling that feels like you are about to vomit.  Much like fever, vomiting is just a sign that there is a health problem.  It is not the problem itself.

The provider will carefully go over your history and then examine you to try and determine the cause.  Most commonly the cause is either a viral infection of the intestinal tract or food poisoning.  These are usually self limited, that is, they will go away on their own.  We can use medications to treat the nausea to try and control the vomiting.

Depending on your condition and the possible cause of the vomiting, we may need to do testing or send you to a hospital ER for further testing.  We will always err on the side of caution.
