There are 8 cavities or sinuses in your face. They are above, below, in between and behind your eyes. The common symptoms include colored drainage from the nose, thick drainage down the throat, facial pain or pressure. The throat drainage may cause sore throat, ear pain, and coughing. Most of the time a viral infection or seasonal allergies precedes the sinus infection. Many times the symptoms will resolved by waiting a short time. Nasal or sinus rinses along with decongestants may help speed this up. If after a week there is no sign of improvement, antibiotics MAY be indicated for treating the infection, but not always.
